Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer stung by early goals at NDNU

BELMONT, Calif. - Notre Dame de Namur's Omar Herrera posted two early goals and the Argonauts held on to defeat the Point Loma men's soccer team 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The Sea Lions are now 7-5-1 on the season and in fourth place in the PacWest with 18 points (6-3-0). NDNU (7-6-1, 5-3-1 PacWest) is right behind PLNU in the standings with 16 points.

The Argonauts scored first in the 10th minute off a free kick that the Sea Lions were unable to clear and Herrera collected his own rebound off the crossbar before poking the ball in for the early lead. The second goal occurred in the same fashion in the 13th minute as NDNU and Herrera took advantage of a free kick for another score.

The Sea Lions did not hang their heads and even outshot the Argonauts in the second half but were unable to get the tie. Patrice Glaser scored the Sea Lions' lone goal in the 88th minute on a free kick. It was the freshman's third goal of the season.

"We had our chances, at least to come back and tie it," said Wolf. "We had three or four good looks, and two sitters against the goalkeeper, but we couldn't quite get it done.

"If you concede goals off free kicks this is one of those deals that comes back to get you," he added.

The Sea Lions will return home for their final two matches of the season. They will host Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. and BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2:00 p.m.

"We had lots of results go our way today and we are still in (the PacWest race)," said Wolf. "We want to finish this season on a positive note and these last home games are very important for us to do that."
