Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

PLNU scores 3 goals in 2 minutes to defeat NDNU

BELMONT, Calif. - The Point Loma women's soccer team scored three goals within two minutes early in the second half to overpower and defeat Academy of Art, 4-0, on Saturday, Oct. 24.

After dominating the game in the first half, but coming up empty on the scoreboard, PLNU (10-4-0, 7-2-0 PacWest) finally broke through for a goal in the 60th minute when Rachel Witz's shot deflected perfectly off a defender, over the Argonauts' goalkeeper and into the net. This was the second-straight match Witz has recorded the game-winning goal for Point Loma.

From there the flood gates opened and Point Loma was able to add two more goals before the Argonauts (2-12-0, 2-7-0 PacWest) could blink. Keagan Bolibol, the reigning PacWest Freshman of the Week, notched her first career goal on an assist by Emily Pedlowe in the 61st minute to put PLNU up 2-0.  Just 43 seconds later, Pedlowe would find Bella Diaz open for another score to extend the Sea Lions' lead to 3-0.

Jennifer Ballez tacked on an insurance goal off an assist by Amanda Mitchell in the 76th minute. That capped off the scoring for Point Loma on a day in which it outshot NDNU 25-1, and 15-0 on shots on goal. The Sea Lions are now outscoring their opponents 18-5 this season.

Point Loma goalkeeper Ariel Oriarte did not have to make a save en route to recording her ninth shutout in 14 matches. NDNU's goalkeeper Paige Platko made 10 saves for the Argonauts.

PLNU is now in a three-way tie for first place in the PacWest standings with 21 points. The Sea Lions are tied with Dixie State and Concordia (CA) atop the standings.

The Sea Lions will return home next week to host Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m. and BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11:00 a.m.
