Point Loma looks to bounce back against HPU & FPU

The PLNU women's soccer team opens the week with a match against Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 1:00 p.m. and then travel to Fresno Pacific on Saturday Oct. 10 at 5:00 p.m.

A look at the Sea Lions
The Point Loma women's soccer team had its 15-match PacWest undefeated streak snapped last week against California Baptist, falling 1-0 on Saturday. The Sea Lions' overall record now stands at 5-3-0 on the season. PLNU is also tied for sixth in the PacWest standings with six points (2-1-0 PacWest). PLNU also earned a big win last week over No. 18 and formerly undefeated, Azusa Pacific, in overtime on a goal by Shelby Murphy.
 
Cori Deason is the only Sea Lion to score more than one goal this season. She leads the team with a pair of goals, each of which has been a game-winner. She also leads the team with 22 total shots and eight shots on goal. Rachel Witz has a pair of assists to pace Point Loma. Goal keeper Ariel Oriarte has posted shutouts in five of the Sea Lions' eight contests. She is allowing 0.37 goals per game and has 11 saves.
 
As a team, PLNU leads the PacWest in goals allowed with just three on the season (0.37 per game). Point Loma also ranks third in shots (112) and has allowed the least amount of shots on goal (14).
 
A look at the Sharks
The Hawaii Pacific women's soccer team is 4-4-0 on the season and 1-2-0 in conference. The Sharks went 3-2 in their last five matches. They have netted nine goals in eight games, with three coming in their last match against Fresno Pacific.
 
Erika Ellis leads the team in goals with three on the season. Three other student-athletes have contributed to the goal count with Noelle Mercado leading the team in assists with two on the season. HPU is second in the PacWest with 117 shots on the season. PLNU is 1-1-1 all-time against HPU. The Sharks won the last meeting at PLNU Soccer Field (10/5/2013).
 
A look at the Sunbirds
The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team is 4-3-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the PacWest. The Sunbirds will face Dominican (CA) on Wednesday, Oct. 7 before facing PLNU on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 5:00 p.m.
 
Amber Rodriguez leads the Sunbirds in goals for with three. Five other student-athletes contribute to FPU's overall 11-goal count. Despite boasting a 1.83 goals per game average, the Sunbirds are having trouble keeping the ball out of the net. Goalkeepers Seiena Braun and Summer Hammond have just two shutouts on the season and have allowed seven goals in the last five games. PLNU leads the all-time series against FPU 11-3-1 but the Sea Lions lost their last meeting in Fresno 2-1 (11/2/2013).
 
Next week
Point Loma will host Chaminade on Monday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m., and then travel to Concordia (Calif.) on Saturday, Oct. 17 for as 11:00 a.m. contest.
