SAN DIEGO - Dixie State got a combined 45 points and 20 rebounds from their two posts to hand the Point Loma women's basketball team a 79-69 loss on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The Sea Lions (5-3, 0-2 PacWest) have now dropped three straight games after opening the year on a five-game winning streak. This was the first win of the season for Dixie State (1-6, 1-1 PacWest).

Point Loma trailed DSU early but fought back to take a 38-36 lead into halftime. PLNU extended their lead to six points (58-52) entering the third quarter, but the fourth quarter was all Dixie State. The Red Storm outscored Point Loma 27-11 to turn the six-point deficit into a 10-point win. Â In the quarter, Dixie State went 7-of-11 from the field and 10-of-13 at the free throw line. Meanwhile, PLNU shot just 4-of-15 in the quarter.
Taylor Mann paced Dixie State with 25 points and 10 rebounds. She was 10-of-16 from the field and 5-of-7 at the free throw line. Ashlee Burge added 20 points and 10 rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting. For the game the Red Storm shot 51 percent from the field and 84 percent at the free throw line (16-of-19).

"Dixie State had two tall players that they were intent on getting the ball to and they were more successful at that than we were at stopping them," said Point Loma head coach
Bill Westphal.

Alex Brunk led Point Loma in scoring with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting. She also had a team-leading seven rebounds and three assists. This was Brunk's third 20-point game of the season.
Madison West was the only other Sea Lion in double-figures as she posted 19 points. She hit half of PLNU's six 3-point baskets.

Point Loma was also hurt by a minus-9 rebound differential (38-29). PLNU also had only nine assists on their 25 baskets, compared to 20 assists on 29 baskets for the Red Storm.

The Point Loma women's basketball team will try to snap its three-game losing streak on Wednesday, Dec. 9, when it travels to Cal State San Marcos to face the Cougars in a non-conference contest. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.Â
