SAN DIEGO - Eleven different student-athletes scored for the Sea Lions who cruised to an 89-60 victory over Saint Katherine in a non-conference contest on Friday, Feb. 20.
Â
This was the 20th win of the season for the Sea Lions (20-6, 12-6 PacWest). They have reached that plateau in three of the past four seasons. This was also PLNU's seven win in its last eight games. This was the final game of the season for the second-year St. Katherine's program. The Firebirds fell to 8-22 with the loss.
Â
Mike Planeta led the team effort for PLNU with 15 points, on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting off the bench. He also pulled down eight defensive boards and had three assists.
Junior Morgan paced all scorers with 19 points.
Sam Okhotin and
Hayden Lescault also added 11 and 13 points, respectively.
Â
Point Loma held SKU to 28 percent shooting in the first half to build a 46-26 lead at the half. The Sea Lions would extend their lead to 31 points in the second half. All 13 Sea Lions that entered the game scored a point or had an assist.
Â
With three minutes left PLNU went to the rotation of
Joe Elmquist,
Emerson Castaneda,
Aaron Roedl,
James Walters and
Trevor Peterson which fired up the crowd as each came in with energy and looking to make plays. Castaneda's pull-up 3-pointer highlighted the late spurt by the Sea Lions.
Â
Point Loma has already clinched a berth in the six-team PacWest Championship tournament. PLNU is also ranked No. 8 on the first regional poll that was released earlier in the week.
Â
Point Loma's next game will be its final home game of the 2014-15 season. PLNU will welcome in Notre Dame de Namur for Senior Day on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.Â
