Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dixie State ruins regular season finale for PLNU

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Point Loma men's basketball team could not find its rhythm all game against a Dixie State squad that was determined to get a share of the Pacific West Conference Championship as the Red Storm shot 50 percent and controlled the glass to hand the Sea Lions a 76-60 loss.

The victory gave Dixie State (20-6, 17-3 PacWest) its fifth PacWest men's basketball championship. Dixie State will enter the PacWest Championships next week in Irvine, Calif., as the No. 1 seed and will receive a first round bye. PLNU completes the regular season at 21-7 (13-7 PacWest). The Sea Lions will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament and will face BYU-Hawaii in the opening round on Thursday, Mar. 5 at 6:15 p.m.

Zach Robbins led the Red Storm on their Senior Day with 13 points and 19 rebounds. His efforts on the glass helped fuel Dixie State's 40-22 rebounding edge, and outscore PLNU 10-2 on second chance points. Mason Sawyer scored a game-high 18 points for Dixie State, including hitting all three of his 3-point attempts in the first half as the Red Storm started 6-of-9 from behind the arc.

Hayden Lescault and Marek Klassen each scored 11 points to pace PLNU. Lescault also hauled in a team-high five rebounds. He was the only Sea Lion with more than two boards in the game.

The game was close early with each team exchanging baskets until PLNU took a 16-15 lead on a Sam Okhotin jumper with 12:01 left in the first half. From there Dixie State would go on to outscore Point Loma 25-9 over the next 12 minutes to take a 40-27 lead at the half. PLNU could never get the game back to single-digits during the second half and fell 76-60.

The Sea Lions will now get ready to face BYU-Hawaii on Thursday, Mar. 5 in the PacWest Championships in Irvine, Calif. PLNU defeated the Seasiders in Golden Gym earlier this season, 85-82, after outscoring them 13-0 in the final minutes.
