Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

PLNU falls to #8 CSULA in non-conference match

SAN DIEGO - Herbert Biste's goal in the 71st minute broke a 1-1 tie and help No. 8 Cal State LA defeat the Point Loma men's soccer team, 2-1, on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The win moves CSULA to 2-0-1 on the season while PLNU drops to 1-2-0.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Golden Eagles got on the board first in the 53rd minute to take the 1-0 lead. That lead was short-lived though, as PLNU put together its prettiest goal of the season to tie it at 1-1 in the 65th minute. Tyler Allen started the play with a pass to Andrew Ritchie in the box. Ritchie made a quick heel pass to Patrice Glaser at the top of the box who rifled the shot in for his first collegiate goal.

Biste's game-winner came on a counter attack just six minutes later. Biste was able to beat the PLNU defense down the field and corral a long pass from Marvin Iskra off the chest for a one-time shot into the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

"We gave this one away," said PLNU head coach Phil Wolf. "It is as simple as that. We missed a penalty kick and had a keeper error. You can't win many when you do those things.

"It was a nice play and it was great to see combination play to get that goal," said coach Wolf about the Sea Lions' lone goal. "Patrice took it really well and made it look easy. I didn't think getting chances against Cal State LA would be that hard but we made it difficult on ourselves. I'm disappointed in the results today because that was a team we could take.

"We have a good group, but there is a difference between being a good group and a great group that gets results," continued Wolf. "Right now we have a good group that plays good futbol but we have to get results."

PLNU will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11:30 a.m., when they host Sonoma State.
