Heather Leavitt had 20 kills to lead the Point Loma volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-17 and 25-23 sweep of Regis in the nightcap of the Seaside Invitational on Friday, Sept. 4.

PLNU is now 2-0 on the season while Regis fell to 1-1.

Point Loma controlled tempo throughout the match thanks to one of its best defensive performances in year.
Christin Fisher and
Kelli LeClair tied for the team-lead with 14 digs, and Leavitt added 12 for her second straight double-double.

"This whole preseason defense has been our focus," explained head coach
Jonathan Scott. "Blocking is goal No. 1 and digging No. 2. I can easily say in my five years at Point Loma the two matches today made me the most proud in those areas."

PLNU won the battle at the net 9.0-5.0 on blocks.
Sam Stack paced the way with five, while Savannah Wedmeyer added four. Wedemeyer also registered a match-high 31 assists. Many of those went to Leavitt who averaging nearly five sets a match. Â

"That (combo) is something we are blessed to have," said Scott. "I'm hoping we don't rely on it very long because we need to get everyone going but right now it is all about winning the next match; we are only focused on San Francisco State right now."

Point Loma will face the Gators of SFSU as its third opponent in the Seaside Invitational. The Sea Lions will take on San Francisco State on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1:00 p.m.Â
