BELMONT, Calif. -
Sam Okhotin hit five 3-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 19 points, and
Tanner Lancona added 15 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting, as the Point Loma men's basketball team won at Notre Dame de Namur, 66-52 (Jan. 5).

The win snaps a three-game PacWest losing streak for the Sea Lions and brings their record to 6-5 on the season (2-3 PacWest). The loss drops NDNU to 1-10 on the season and to 0-4 in the PacWest.

PLNU was very efficient offensively led by efforts from its big men. Lancona didn't just get it done inside; he also hit two 3-pointers during his perfect shooting effort, and added seven rebounds.
Zach Burnham was 4-of-5 from the field and posted nine points.

"We started a bit bigger tonight and it paid off with good effort around the rim," said Point Loma head coach
Bill Carr. "Cameron (Gilbert) was also good too. It was nice to see our three big guys not just contribute but really help us win the game."

Sam Okhotin also shot well going 7-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-10 from behind the arc.

"Sam gave us great senior leadership with his effort and competitive edge," added Carr.

Josh Rodriguez added 10 assists to increase his PacWest-leading average to 6.9 per game. PLNU had assists on 18 of its 25 baskets.

Point Loma also posted its best defensive effort of the season. The Sea Lions allowed a season-low 52 points to the Argonauts as NDNU shot just 32 percent from the field and made only 17 baskets in the game.  Jalen Young led NDNU with 16 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Point Loma also won the rebounding battle 36-30.

"The group put in work on defense and rebounding so it was good to see it pay off," Carr explained.

The Sea Lions will remain in the Bay Area to face Academy of Art on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 2:30 p.m.

"(ARTU) will be a good test for us," Carr added. "We have to take care of the ball and really guard on Thursday to be successful."
