SAN DIEGO -
Rachel Witz delivered the set piece goal coach
Tim Hall and the entire Point Loma women's soccer team has been searching for over the last few matches to lift PLNU to a 1-0 victory over Dominican on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Â
Witz provided the Sea Lions (4-2-3, 2-1-1 PacWest) with the game-winning goal in the 75th minute off a free kick from 24 yards out. PLNU drew a foul just left of the center of the box and Witz went to take it. She saw an opening on the right side of the goal and struck the ball low and hard, to avoid the goalie's hands and it found the nylon for her first goal of 2016.
Â
As always the Sea Lions' defense was solid en route to earning its fifth shutout in nine matches. PLNU allowed just three shots to the Penguins in the contest, all of which
Ariel Oriarte saved. Point Loma outshot DUC in the contest 16-3.
Â
PLNU nearly had another score but
Keagan Bolibol's goal was waved off on a close offsides call midway through the second half.
Â
The Sea Lions will continue their seven-match homestand on Thursday, Oct. 6 when it hosts Academy of Art at 3:30 p.m.Â
