Fisher sets dig record in upset win over Penguins

Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Christin Fisher finally got the school record for digs in a single-match with 40, and it helped lead the Point Loma women's volleyball team to a 24-26, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19 upset victory on the road over Dominican (CA) on Friday, Nov. 11.

This gives the Sea Lions (10-16, 8-9 PacWest) their 10th win of the season and allows them to remain eighth in the PacWest standings. The loss was a very big deal for DUC (16-8, 12-3 PacWest), which came into the contest holding out hopes for capturing the PacWest's automatic bid to the NCAA West Regional. The Penguins entered the day just a half-game behind CBU for the automatic bid, but the loss drops them 1.5 matches back with just four to play.

It was not just Christin Fisher that was all over the court defensively for the Sea Lions, it was the entire team. PLNU held Dominican to a .160 hitting percentage and five Sea Lions had at least 19 digs. Fisher's 40 digs topped the previous school record of 38 held by Nicole Eiler. Fisher now owns the PLNU record for digs in a single match and in a career.

Brianna Sizemore also had a career night with 27 kills. She topped her previous career-high of 23 kills in just four sets. She hit .205 on the evening and added 19 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Samantha Krakower matched her own career-high with 17 kills. She had just three errors in 36 swings for a .389 hitting percentage. Marissa Hageman posted her second double-double of the season with 13 kills and 19 digs. Cara Keturakis again flirted with a triple-double as she posted 53 assists and 21 digs to go along with seven kills. Aimee Steinwald was the only Penguin in double-figure kills with 16.

Fisher had come close to breaking the school record for digs in a single-match before. She has hit the 37-dig mark on two occasions already this year, and has posted 36 digs in a match four other times.

Point Loma will face Holy Names on Saturday, Nov. 12 to close out its Bay Area road trip. The match will start at 2 p.m.
