Are you ready for Homecoming? PLNU hosts Biola 6pm

This week
The Point Loma women's basketball team will look to continue its 100 percent start to the season in this Saturday's Homecoming clash against non-conference opponents Biola.  The Sea Lions and the Eagles will tip off at 6:00pm.

Homecoming weekend information
As always Homecoming is an exciting time on the PLNU campus and 2016 will be no exception. T-shirts/Wristbands for the Homecoming basketball games are already being sold on campus and they will be available in front of Golden Gym on Saturday (11/19).  Current student, staff & faculty cost is $2. Students will need to show a current ID card in order to purchase at the student rate. With the purchase you will receive a wristband and a much coveted t-shirt.  Both wristbands and t-shirts will be distributed from the Office of Student Development located on the top floor of the Commons.
 
Alumni and other visitors (including family/friends of current students) can purchase wristbands/t-shirts on Saturday, 11/19 at the Alumni Association Booth on the Campus Mall, during the Tailgate BBQ, or in front of the Gym.  Adult = $8, children = $6. A look at the Sea Lions
A strong start to the season has seen the Sea Lions ladies (3-0) climb to the top of the PacWest women's basketball standings. Point Loma comes into the homecoming clash on the back of three consecutive victories against non-conference teams. A tense home opener against formidable opponents Cal Poly Pomona, saw the Sea Lions grind out a resilient 61-57 victory.  This was followed by resounding victories against both Cal State Dominguez Hills (75-58) and Montana State Billings (75-55).
 
Madison West leads the PLNU team with 42 points and ranks eighth in the PacWest with 14 points per game. Her impressive start sees her ranked second in the PacWest for field goal percentage (.444) and fourth for field goals per game (2.7). Sydney Tonack ranks 10th in the PacWest in points per game (13.0), her 39 points places her second in the PLNU team to Madison West. She also ranks sixth in free throw percentage (.429) and second in shots blocked per game (1.7). The Sea Lions currently have four student-athletes averaging in the double digits for points per game. On the defensive side of the ball, Roya Rumstamzada ranks second in the PacWest for rebounds per game (11.0), whilst she leads the league in the assist/ turnover category (6.5). Her 12-rebound games against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Dominguez are the second most rebounds recorded in a PacWest game this season. Kassidy Gengenbacher leads the team with six steals.
 
As a team the Sea Lions are averaging 70.3 points per game and are allowing a PacWest low 56.7 ppg. Their impressive start has also seen them establish the PacWest's highest average scoring margin (13.7).
 
Rustamzada grabs PacWest Defender of the Week award
Point Loma forward Roya Rustamzada has added to her decorated college basketball career, after being named PacWest co-defender of the Week for the week of Nov. 7-13. Rustamzada was the MVP of the PacWest/CCAA Conference Challenge in San Diego. She had 12 rebounds in each game, with 23 of her 24 total boards coming on the defensive glass. She averaged 14.0 points per game on 68.8 percent shooting, dished out four assists in each game, and had three total blocks. Point Loma held its two CCAA opponents to 57.5 points per game on 29.8 percent combined shooting to win by an average of 10.5 points.
 
The award marks the eighth time she has received a PacWest weekly honor during her three years as a Sea Lion. She is a two-time PacWest Defender of the Week, and a six-time recipient of the PacWest Freshman of the Week award.
  
A look at the Eagles
Biola and head coach Alan Nakamura enters Saturday's Homecoming game with a 4-1 overall record. Like Point Loma, the Eagles currently find themselves on a winning streak. They have won four straight after being edged by Cal State Domniguez Hills in their season opener (69-68). This includes an impressive 107-52 victory over La Sierra University on Nov 5. Five Eagles are currently averaging in double-figures, led by DeMoria White's 19.6 points per game. Joclyn Kirton is nearly averaging a double-double with 12.6 points and 9.2 rebounds. As a team, Biola is averaging 85.6 ppg and are holding their opponents to 56.0 ppg.
 
Next Week
Point Loma will complete their run of six consecutive non- conference games when they head to Carson to take part in the Thanksgiving Classic. Point Loma will play Cal State LA on Friday Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. They take on Cal State Dominguez Hills the following day at 3 p.m.
