Five Sea Lions post double-figures in victory

CARSON, Calif. - Alex Brunk scored 21 points and Roya Rustamzada pulled down another double-double to help Point Loma bounce back from its first loss of the season with an 81-70 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills at the PacWest/CCAA Thanksgiving Classic.

The win moves Point Loma to 5-1 on the season and CSUDH drops to 3-4.

The 21 points were a season-high for Brunk, who lived at the free throw line this evening as she went 10-of-15 from the charity stripe. She also went 5-of-7 from the field, grabbed five rebounds and had two blocks. She was one of two Sea Lions that connected on 10 made free throws in the game. The other was Kassidy Gengenbacher, who came off the bench with 18 points, for her fifth straight game in double-figures. Point Loma finished the game outscoring the Toros 31-13 at the free throw line.

Rustamzada has already matched her career-high for double-doubles with four, just six games into the season. She pulled down 12 caroms and posted 12 points. She also led the team with four assists. Madison West continues to inch closer to the Point Loma's career 3-pointer record as she hit three more tonight, and is just five short of the mark of 198. She was 3-of-6 from long range and posted 15 points in the contest. Sydney Tonack was the fifth Sea Lion in double-figures with 13 points.

Imari Brown had 20 points to pace Cal State Dominguez Hills. She was 9-of-20 from the field. She was one of four Toros in double-figures.

After CSUDH scored the opening basket PLNU never trailed in the game. The Sea Lions built a 41-34 lead at halftime and extended it to as many as 15 points in the second half.

Point Loma will now prepare for the start of PacWest play on Dec. 1. The Sea Lions will open the conference season at home against PacWest preseason favorite California Baptist. The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. It will also feature Military Night and the #BeatCBU promotions.
