Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Concordia's 'D' causes road bump for Sea Lions

IRVINE, Calif. - Concordia's defense forced the Point Loma men's basketball team into 21 turnovers and held them to 1-of-16 shooting from behind the arc to earn an 83-63 win on Saturday, Dec. 10.

The Sea Lions are now 4-5 on the season and 1-2 in the PacWest. The win moves the Eagles to 6-5 on the year and to 3-1 in conference play.

Josh Rodriguez was the only Point Loma student-athlete to reach double-figures. He scored a game-high 19 points, aided by his 9-for-12 effort at the free throw line. He also posted three assists, three steals and a block.

Brian Chambers came off the bench with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting to pace three Eagles in double-figures. Justin Davis chipped in with 15 points and Josh Hauser added 11.

The Eagles' defense controlled the contest and never let the Sea Lions find a rhythm offensively. PLNU turned the ball over 13 times in the first half as Concordia took a 45-29 halftime lead. The Eagles would add to their advantage thanks to a 10-0 run in the middle of the second half. Any thought of a Point Loma comeback was also thwarted by its 0-for-10 performance from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.

That deficit limited the Sea Lions in being able to take advantage of their size on the block. Vince Boumann was held to just eight points in 23 minutes, and the Eagles actually outscored the Sea Lions on points in the paint, 40-38. The 21 turnovers matched a season-high for Point Loma, which it set in its season opener.

PLNU will look to get back in the win column next Saturday, Dec. 17 when it hosts Holy Names in a PacWest showdown at 4 p.m.
