Sea Lions host Lancers on Senior Night

This week
The Point Loma men's basketball team will close out its home schedule tomorrow when it hosts California Baptist on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. PLNU enters the game at 13-10 (8-8 PacWest) and CBU comes in at 20-6 (11-5 PacWest).
 
Senior sendoff

Prior to the game Point Loma will honor its four seniors which will be playing their final games at Golden Gymnasium. Judd Welfringer and Sam Okhotin have each been with PLNU the past four seasons, and Randall Jackson and Aaron Roedl joined the Sea Lions prior to the 2014-15 season. The ceremony will start 15 minutes prior to tipoff.

A look at the Sea Lions
The Point Loma men's basketball team (13-10, 8-8 PacWest) controls its own fate to make the PacWest tournament. The Sea Lions have gone 6-3 in their last nine games to move into seventh in the PacWest standings and put themselves on the inside track to be one of the top seven finishers in the league ( Concordia is not eligible for postseason play this year). PLNU is a half-game up on Fresno Pacific, Dominican and Chaminade which are all tied with 8-9 records in the conference. The PacWest Tournament will be held Mar. 3-5 in Irvine, Calif.
 
Josh Rodriguez has put together a historic first season with Point Loma. In addition to earning eight PacWest Freshman of the Week honors, Rodriguez also leads Point Loma and ranks seventh in the PacWest with 17.1 points per game. He is seventh in NCAA Division II with 6.9 assists per game and eighth in total assists (158). He also ranks third in the PacWest in steals per game (1.9) and ninth in 3-point percentage (.403). Tanner Lancona is third in the league with a .568 field goal percentage. He is averaging 13.1 ppg and shooting .476 percent from 3-point range.
 
A look at the Lancers
California Baptist is 20-6 on the season and tied for fourth place in the PacWest standings with an 11-5 record. The Lancers were ranked in the top 25 for most of the season, even climbing as high as No. 5, but have recently dropped into the 'others receiving votes category.' CBU is second in the league in scoring at 88.9 points per game. Michael Smith is second in the league in scoring with 20.6 ppg. Gelaun Wheelwright is sixth with 17.1 ppg.

Point Loma will go on the road to Hawaii to face Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday, Feb. 23, Hawaii Pacific on Thursday, Feb. 25 before closing out their trip against Chaminade on Saturday, Feb. 27.
