A look at the Sea LionsThe winning streak has helped PLNU separate itself from the teams a tier below. Point Loma is in sole possession of sixth place in the standings with an 8-4 PacWest record (15-5 overall), 2.5 games ahead of seventh-place Hawaii Hilo. However, the Sea Lions will be facing their toughest stretch of the season over their next five games, as their opponents have combined for a .777 winning percentage (84-24).
Madison West leads PLNU and ranks sixth in the PacWest with 16.0 points per game. She is second in the PacWest with 3.0 treys made per game, while ranking eighth in field goal percentage (.437), and third in 3-point percentage (.420). She is also second in the league in minutes played (35.4).
Alex Brunk is 13th in scoring (14.4), seventh in rebounding (8.3) and third in steals (2.5).
Roya Rustamzada has filled the stat sheet all season for the Sea Lions. She is fifth in the PacWest in steals (2.3), ninth in rebounds (8.0) and 10th in assists (3.3), while averaging 13.4 points per game.
Sydney Tonack gives PLNU its fourth double-figure scorer. She is averaging 10.5 ppg, to go along with 1.5 blocks (sixth PacWest).
As a team, the Sea Lions are averaging 68.9 points per game and are allowing 62.1 ppg. Point Loma ranks third in the PacWest in 3-point percentage (.358) and fourth in 3-pointers made per game (7.4). Nationally, Point Loma is 37th in fewest turnovers per game (14.0), 44th in steals (10.1) and sixth in fewest fouls (14.5).
West named SDHOC Star of the Month in JanuaryMadison West was named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month in January after averaging 18.0 points and 4.1 rebounds, while leading the Point Loma women's basketball team to a record of 7-1. The junior shooting guard had 18 or more points in five of the eight games, including a career-high 28 point performance in a win at Dixie State. During the month she shot 53 percent from the field (52-of-98) and 48 percent from 3-point range (28-of-58). She ranks seventh in the PacWest in scoring (16.0) and third in 3-point percentage (.420). The Pittsburg, Calif., native is also second in the league in made 3-pointers per game (3.0) and ninth in field goal percentage (.437).
A look at the SharksHawaii Pacific is 13-8 on the season and sits fifth in the PacWest with a 10-4 record. Breanna Mackenzie leads the team and is fifth in the PacWest with 17.9 points per game. She is shooting .463 percent from the field and .368 percent from long range. As a team, HPU is averaging 68.6 ppg and afre leading the PacWest by allowing only 60.6 ppg.
