Point Loma drops PacWest Opener

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma volleyball team fell in four sets, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20, to Dixie State in the 2016 PacWest Conference opener for both teams. (Sept. 16)

The win evens Dixie State's record at 4-4 on the season (1-0 PacWest), while the Sea Lions slip to 2-7 (0-1 PacWest).

The Trailblazers' Delayne Daniel was too much for the Sea Lions to handle during the match. The senior had 23 kills and just four errors while hitting .352 to lead DSU. She also added a match-high 22 digs and three blocks. Taylor Duryea and Brette Anderson turned in 11 and 13 kills, respectively, and Lindsay Garrett had eight kills without an error (.533 hitting percentage).

Brianna Sizemore led the Sea Lions' offense with 14 kills and just four errors for a .250 hitting percentage. Samantha Krakower added 10 kills and a team-leading .350 hitting percentage. Cara Keturakis also got in on the scoring with seven kills of her own. She added 33 assists and 16 digs for her third-straight double-double, and her sixth of the season. Christin Fisher continued her climb in the PLNU record books as she added 22 digs. She is just 221 digs away from breaking the school's all-time career record.

Things looked good for Point Loma early as they came back to win the opening set 26-24 after trailing 23-18 but that was the high point of the match. Dixie State turned up the defense in the final three sets and walked away with the victory.

PLNU will have to quickly put this match out of their minds as it welcomes in rival Azusa Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 17 for a match at 3 p.m.
