RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Point Loma women's soccer team fell in its PacWest Conference opener to California Baptist, 2-1, on Thursday, Sept. 22.
 
The Sea Lions' record is now all evened up at 2-2-2 (0-1-0 PacWest). CBU improved to 2-3-1 (1-0-0 PacWest) with the victory.
 
Not many would have seen the barrage of scoring in the first half with the two teams combining for all three goals within a 15 minute window. CBU scored first on a nice shot inside the box from Desarae Felix. California Baptist followed by lending the Sea Lions a helping hand with an own goal to knot the score up at 1-1. That tie was short-lived as Casey Kute took advantage of a mis-clear by the Sea Lions to poke in the eventual game-winning goal.
 
PLNU had multiple looks at the equalizer in the second half, including a penalty kick in the 60th minute, but the Lancers' goalie Sara Escobedo stonewalled all its chances to preserve the one-goal lead. The teams finished the match tied with 11 shots apiece. Ariel Oriarte had two saves for the Sea Lions.
 
PLNU is now 0-2-1 against California Baptist since 2012.
 
Point Loma will return home to host Dixie State (2-4-0, 0-1-0 PacWest) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.
