Women's Soccer

Women's soccer welcomes UHH, HPU to mainland

This week
The Point Loma women's soccer team will take on two Hawaii schools this week. The Sea Lions will host Hawai'i Hilo as part of the university's parent's weekend this Saturday, Oct. 14 at 11:30 a.m., and Hawaii Pacific on Monday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.

A look at the Sea Lions
The Point Loma women's soccer team sealed a win over Chaminade, 3-0, on Monday (Oct. 9) after scoring two goals in the first 13 minutes of the game. The win put Point Loma (4-5-1, 3-3-0 PacWest) into sixth place, tied with Dixie State and Notre Dame de Namur, in the PacWest standings with nine points.

After the game against Chaminade, Ashlee Watkins took the lead for the Sea Lions in goals scored with three. Ashlee Smith and Abbey Teagle lead the team in total shots with 13. Watkins and Teagle connected on both of the goals in the first 13 minutes of the game on Monday against Chaminade. Jessica Taylor scored the third goal in the 42nd minute of the match with an assist by Abbi Swanson. Goalkeeper Brianna Linnell has 31 saves on the year and has a goal against average of 1.06.

A look at the Vulcans
University of Hawai'i Hilo (6-3-1, 3-2-1 PacWest) is now in fifth place in the PacWest standings with 10 points. Last week included a 4-0 defeat against Hawai'i Pacific and another 4-0 victory against Academy of Art, adding to their three-match winning streak. 
 
Carlie Reader leads the team with five goals this season and 21 shots. Kayela Santiago leads the team in assists this season with four and is tied for third in the league in assists per game with four. Goalie Lauren Spencer has 71 saves on the year and a goal against average of 1.05.

A look at the Sharks
Hawaii Pacific (6-4-1, 2-3-1 PacWest) is tied with Biola for ninth place in the PacWest standings with six points. Last week, after earning a victory over the Academy of Art, 1-0, the Sharks suffered a bad loss to Hawaii Hilo, 4-0, on a rain covered field.
 
Ebony Madrid leads the team with five goals this season. She also leads the team in shots on goal with 14 bringing her shots on goal percentage to .640. She is tied for fifth in the league in goals. Leonicia Lopez leads the team in assists with two and has posted three goals this season. Goalie Lauren Spencer has 71 saves on the year and is tied for first in shutouts per game in the conference with four.  

Next match
Point Loma will play their last home game against Concordia on Thursday, Oct. 26, with play beginning at 1 p.m.
