Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Comeback for the ages runs unbeaten streak to 12

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Whenever you think about a famous winning streak there is always one game in there that stands out above the rest as being the signature match. Today the Point Loma men's soccer team had theirs, as they came back from a 3-1 second-half deficit to win in overtime on Jorge Navarro's game-winner and extend their school-record unbeaten streak to 12 matches.

In a match that featured two of the top defensive teams in the PacWest, no one would have predicted this match. After both teams were tied at 1-1 at halftime, Dixie State opened up a 3-1 lead with two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half. But there was no quit in these Sea Lions. Point Loma scored three goals between the 72nd and 87th minutes to take back the lead at 4-3. The goals were provided by some of the veterans as Mitch Wheelon scored to cut the lead to 3-2. Eduardo Gallardo provided the equalizer a few minutes later and Indiana Fuller scored for the fourth straight match to put PLNU up 4-3 in the 87th minute.

Dixie State didn't yield either, and just as you would expect from another one of the top teams in the PacWest, the Trailblazers had one more goal in them. Dixie State was able to work the ball into PLNU's box and on their shot it hit a Sea Lions' arm, leading to a penalty kick. Moises Medina finished the penalty shot for the hat trick, and to send the match to overtime.

In the extra period, the Sea Lions were the aggressor and went for the win and full points on the road. Tim Siegfried posted his third assist of the match as he found Navarro open for the game-winner in the 98th minute. This was the Sea Lions fourth overtime match during their streak.

PLNU did not give up after being two goals down against one of the top defensive teams in the country. Wheelon's goal opened up the scoring for Point Loma and they went on to post three goals within 15 minutes.

Wolf's Words
On the comeback: "I have seen 3-1 comebacks before but never a nine-goal match with two teams that on the season had not conceded much in any of their matches. This was not a storyline I would have ever expected to happen."

On the spirit of his team: "I am so proud of the heart, the effort and courage of this team. At 3-1 we could have easily packed it up, but the guys kept fighting and I am really proud of them. There was so much heart and determination showed out there. "

On Navarro's game-winner: "We had said we were going for the win. Tim made a really nice play on the baseline and Junior got to a nice spot and put it away. It was a great moment for the team and the program."
