LIGHTS OUT SHOOTING LEADS SEA LIONS TO VICTORY

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Point Loma put on an offensive show to the delight of a crowd of almost 800 people for Saturday's homecoming game against the Montevallo Falcons. The team shot 61% from the field including 50% from behind-the-arc to put up 114 points in fashion. The Sea Lions were slow out of the gate in the first quarter, early turnovers led to offense for the Falcons who took a 20-18 lead through one quarter of play.

The next three quarters were all Point Loma as they scored 31 or more points in each of them. The lights-out shooting was led by Alex Brunk who went 10-15 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from three, for a team leading 29 points while also grabbing eight boards, just missing a double-double. Tayla Hepburn would make her presence felt in the post as she went 11-14 from the field on her way to a season-high 26 points as well as nine rebounds. Roya Rustamzada, who started the season with three double-doubles, would one-up herself and grab a triple-double with 14 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds.

The Turning Point
After trailing at the end of the first quarter the Sea Lions came out with greater urgency in the second quarter, outscoring the Falcons 31-14 to take a 49-34 lead at the half.

Thoughts from Coach Faulkner
On finding their energy after the first quarter: "Starting the game off there was a very low, weird energy type of start for sure. I don't know if it was because of the big crowd for Homecoming, but we just didn't have very good defensive intensity and offensively we had several turnovers in the first quarter. We were able to adjust our style of play and play much better going forward."

On Roya's triple-double: "She is the type of player that you can count on a double-double almost every game. She sees the floor so well and gets everybody involved, sometimes she is even too unselfish and I would like her to score more. She is a high-IQ player and it's fun to see her have a triple-double, that's awesome."

On the performance of her post players: "It's very nice to have some size and be able to get some easy baskets, it was something we lacked a little bit last year. It's nice to have Tayla and Grace that like to be around the rim and really look to post up a lot. Between the two of them going 14-for-17, it was a really effective, efficient night. It diversifies our game when we can have shooters out on the perimeter and then post players that can score inside."

On playing in front of the Homecoming crowd: "It's awesome. Homecoming is such a special tradition at Point Loma and having that many fans is really fun for our players. I wish that would be every game. We are such a good team and we are a team that people should be coming out to watch consistently. It was nice to have that energy and hopefully we draw those fans back in to some more games."
