ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Point Loma baseball team dropped a PacWest doubleheader to Dixie State on Friday, Mar. 24. The Sea Lions lost the opener 7-0 and the nightcap 11-3.
PLNU is now 16-6 on the season and fall back into second place in the PacWest standings (8-2). The Trailblazers improve to 22-6 and 11-3 in conference.
Game 1
Dixie State struck for four runs in the top of the first and Dylan File won the battle of PacWest Preseason co-Pitchers of the Year to prevail 7-0 in the opener.
After an out to open the game, Dixie State had back-to-back hits and a hit by pitch to load the bases. Tyler Mildenberg then blooped a ball to center to score two and Feist followed with a fisted ball down the line for a double to score another one. An RBI-groundout by Miles Bice put the Trailblazers up 4-0.
After the tough-luck first inning Sheppard (5-1) settled down. He went seven innings allowing nine hits and five runs (four earned) while walking none and striking out two. However, he could not match File who threw the shutout, allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out one.
Mildenberg was 3-for-4 for Dixie State with three RBI. Trey Kamachi also had a three-hit game.

Game 2
Once again Dixie State scored four runs in the first inning to put the Sea Lions on their heels early in a game that ended in an 11-3 decision.
After their four run first inning, the Trailblazers added on to go up 9-0 before the Sea Lions ended their scoring drought with an RBI-double from Sheppard in the sixth.
Mason Hill (6-1) earned the win for Dixie State going seven innings and allowing seven hits and three runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out five.
Trevor Abshire (2-2) took the loss for PLNU.
Colby Kaneshiro and
Harrison Ramey each recorded multi-hit games for the Sea Lions.
