SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma baseball team dropped the opening game of the its four-game series against California Baptist, 6-2, on Thursday, Mar 30.

The Sea Lions are now 16-9 on the season and 8-5 in the PacWest. The win moved CBU to 21-10 and 12-5 in the PacWest.

Carroll B. Land Stadium played small today as there was three balls that left the yard, including the go-ahead and eventual game-winning home run from California Baptist's Ryan Williams in the fourth inning. Point Loma had a 1-0 lead

The fourth inning started with a double, followed by a single to put two runners in scoring position for the Lancers' cleanup hitter, Williams. He took the fourth pitch he saw over the left-center field wall to put CBU up 3-1. The Lancers would tack on another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.
Derek Slate got one back for the Sea Lions with his first career home run in the ninth.

Cal Baptist's Garett King (5-1), who is coming off a no-hitter and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week honors, went eight innings, allowing five hits and one run while walking one and striking out eight. PLNU's
Kellen Sheppard (5-2) pitched seven innings. He was charged with 11 hits and six earned runs. He did strikeout out 10 batter for his second double-figure strikeout performance of the season.

Ryan Garcia went 2-for-4, and was the only Sea Lion to record a multi-hit game. Luke Navigato was 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for CBU. Three other Lancers also had multi-hit games as CBU outhit PLNU 13-6. However, PLNU still left eight runners on compared to three for Cal Baptist.
