Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

ROAD WARRIORS

PLNU wins seventh straight road game

HILO, Hawaii - Preston Beverly's 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting led the way as nine different Sea Lions scored in an 85-62 victory over Hawaii Hilo.

PLNU jumped out to a 23-11 lead and was up 42-25 at the half. The closest UHH would get in the second half was 15 points as the Point Loma men's basketball team cruised to their 10th win in 12 games.

The Sea Lions hit 11-of-22 shots from long range and finished the game shooting .556 percent from the field. Tanner Nelson and Skyler White each knocked down three long range shots to pace the team. Nelson had 13 points on just five shots. Satterthwaite had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Point Loma improved its PacWest scoring defense, which came into the game holding opponents to 65.0 ppg. It limited the Vulcans to .371 percent shooting and outrebounded them by plus-14.

Point Loma (16-7, 10-4 PacWest), Hawaii Hilo (4-13, 3-7 PacWest)

PacWest Implications
The win makes Point Loma one of just three teams in the PacWest standings with 10 or more victories. PLNU is fourth in at 10-4, trailing third-place California Baptist (8-3) and both Azusa Pacific (11-3) and Dixie State (11-2). The loss drops Hawaii Hilo to 10th at 3-6

The Turning Point
Even though it was early, the 14-2 run that saw the Sea Lions break a 9-9 tie and take a double-digit lead proved crucial in the game. Only once the rest of the contest would PLNU surrender its double-digit advantage, and that was just one possession, as it was able to win both games in Hawaii, on perhaps the toughest road trip of the year.

Words from Coach Looney
On the trip: "Proud of our guys' effort and togetherness on this trip. Always great to sweep in Hawaii."
