HILO, Hawaii - There is no denying that
Julia Glaser has a nose for the goal. Through 14 matches this season she had scored 11 goals, including a PacWest-record eight game-winners, and she added to that total on Monday at Hawaii Hilo when she scored the match's only goal on a penalty kick in the 55th minute to lift the No. 6 regionally ranked Point Loma women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory.
Â
The match was one of the best defensive battles in the PacWest this season, with both teams taking only four shots apiece. Neither team had many good looks on goal, and the few times they did the goalkeeper was there to stop their shot.
Â
The break through moment for PLNU came in the 55th minute when
Abbey Teagle was able to draw a foul on Hawaii Hilo inside the box, giving Glaser the opportunity for the penalty kick. She converted for her 12th goal of the season. That is the most goals for any Sea Lion since 2011 and is in the top 3 for a single-season in school history.
Â
Even after that point the defenses continued to dominate the match and neither team would get another good look on goal.
Emma Hinson had two saves for Point Loma and Bailey Cahill had one for UHH.
Â
Team records
Point Loma (13-1-1, 8-0-1 PacWest), Hawaii Hilo (7-4-1, 4-3-1 PacWest)

PacWest implications
The win gives the Sea Lions a nine-point cushion in the PacWest standings over second-place Azusa Pacific. However, PLNU has played two more games than APU. Point Loma has two matches remaining and APU has four. The loss puts Hawaii Hilo into a tie with Biola for third place (13 points).

Words for coach Kiely
On the match: "What an exciting event to be a part of! Credit to Hilo and the environment they created- it was a very entertaining match."
Â
On her team: "Obviously, very proud of the team. As we've said a lot the last six days - this is a beautiful place but a difficult trip and the team handled it perfectly from start to finish. Very proud of them to go 3-0 and to get difficult wins on the road. Every player on this trip played a significant role in our success but every member of our team (including those back at home) have helped us stay competitive."
Â
On PLNU's defense: "I thought our back line battled extremely well including Emma who was strong again today, our mids had one of their best games to date and our front line was active on both sides of the ball. Teagle drew the foul and Julia finished on the pk. We had a few other opportunities to put it away and couldn't capitalize, but they also had one we cleared off the line so again, a very exciting game."
Â
On team improvements: "I felt like we made progress this week - mentally, physically, in our ability to adjust and in our ability to start a game well. The wins are great but I love the progress most."
Â
On the upcoming matches: "We are going to enjoy this one as we travel back home, take a day off and get ready for a very tough week next week."
