AZUSA, Calif. - The Point Loma men's soccer team gave everything they had to try to spoil Azusa Pacific's attempt to go 11-0 in league play, but a goal just 22 seconds into overtime gave APU the 3-2 victory and completed their perfect PacWest run.
This game was really a microcosm of Point Loma's 2018 season. The Sea Lions fell behind early 2-0 on a pair of goals that came within two minutes of each other right before halftime. Those goals seemed to wake PLNU up and it fought back to tie the match 13 minutes into the second half.
Tim Siegfried cut the deficit in half in the 48th minute on his 16th goal of the year.
Indiana Fuller made a run up the right side of the field and put a cross in front of the net, which Siegfried got a foot on and directed it past the keeper for the score.
Corey Lundeen then delivered the equalizer in the 58th minute with his first career goal. This time it was
Jacob Moreno's turn to put a great cross right in front of the goal. He was able to find Lundeen cutting into the middle and he redirected the pass into the net. The rest of the second half was a defensive battle as the two teams combined for just one shot.
As the match turned to the extra period, Azusa Pacific looked reenergized and remotivated to make sure they would complete their mission of a perfect PacWest season. Just 22 seconds into overtime, Kyle Diaz found David Kwinn on a cross for the score and the match was over, leaving the Sea Lions stunned.
This was the fifth time in PLNU's six losses that they fell by one goal.

Words from coach Wolf
On Azusa Pacific: "The fact that they went 11-0 in conference definitely proved they are the best group in league. They have built a very nice team and they are very deserving of the PacWest Championship and to move on to the NCAA (tournament)."
On PLNU coming back to tie the match in the second half: "We fought tonight. We could have just rolled over after the first two goals but the fact that they kept going and found two goals was very encouraging. We also had some very encouraging performances by some of our younger players.
Corey Lundeen was very bright tonight.
Jack Murphy,
Jacob Moreno and
Jacob Eisenberg were all good tonight."
On the result: "It is always disappointing to fight as hard as we did and to then to give one away so easily in overtime. But that has been the story of our season, so we are somewhat used to it."
