SAN DIEGO - Daulton Hommes scored 21 of his 30 points in the second half and Preston Beverly added his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Point Loma men's basketball team outlasted Cal State San Bernardino at the Thanksgiving Classic tournament, 83-68. (Nov. 23)
 
The game was physical from the outset and it took Point Loma a few minutes to adjust but it led the Coyotes 30-28 at the half. CSUSB took the lead a 10-2 run to take back the lead with 15:41 remaining in the game. Hommes then went on a 10-0 run by himself to put PLNU back in front at 49-45. The Sea Lions did a good job keeping that momentum in their corner. They pushed the run to 23-4 as Hommes capped it off with a pair of 3-pointers (62-49). The lead would never drop below nine the rest of the game.
 
Any CSUSB comeback was also hampered by the fact that four Coyotes fouled out of the game, including three starters. Cal State San Bernardino committed 37 fouls in the game. Naradain James led Cal State San Bernardino with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
 
Tanner Nelson joined Hommes and Beverly in double-figures with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Hommes and Beverly also combined to get to the free throw line 26 times (21 makes) as PLNU took 47 free throws, making 35 of them. CSUSB was just 8-of-14 from the free throw line.

The Turning Point
When Hommes got hot the Sea Lions' confidence and execution elevated. The Coyotes had just taken the lead early in the second half, but Hommes knocked down two 3-pointers to start the run and capped it off with two more to end it, as he scored 18 of PLNU's 23 points during the run.
