PLNU completes undefeated PacWest season

AZUSA, Calif. - The Point Loma women's soccer team completed its undefeated run in PacWest play with a 1-0 victory over Azusa Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 3.

With the 2018 PacWest Championship already in hand, the Sea Lions badly wanted to be the first school to ever twice go unbeaten in conference play and carry the momentum they have built over the past two months into the regional.

Ashlee Watkins did not take long to make an impact as she scored just five minutes after entering the match. Bella Diaz served up a cross in front of the net in the 37th minute and Watkins finished it. It was her second goal in as many matches and proved to be difference in the game.

Emma Hinson kept APU off the board with four saves. Tatum French had one save for APU as the Cougars

Words for coach Kiely
On Azusa Pacific: "APU is always a good game. This is such a fun place to play. I appreciate the crowd, the environment, the staff and certainly the competition. I love coming here, and it is always nice to get a win."

On the road match: "It was good place to come and play because we are most likely on the road for regionals next week. It is good to get another test in for postseason play."

On going undefeated in PacWest play: "I asked the team what they wanted to accomplish this year. I do not always like setting goals, as my goal for us is to just get better every day, but our team had specific goals they would like to reach. One of them was winning the PacWest; check. The next was being proud of the way we play; check. The last one they said recently was that they wanted to go undefeated in conference and now we can check that box too. I am very proud of this group for being able to compete at a high level on the road or at home."

On allowing just one goal in PacWest play: "The group did a good job as a group. We have still not conceded a goal on the road, which has been big. Our whole group has been very good and it hasn't mattered who we put on the backline. Everyone has played well and contributed to our success."

On the Sea Lions: "I am really proud of the team. They have worked hard, been consistent and been a lot of fun to be around this entire season. We still have a job to do but what we've accomplished up to this point we can be proud of. We will enjoy it tonight and then look forward to finding out who we play next week."
