SAN DIEGO -
Stephen Young delivered the performance the Sea Lions had been looking for on the mound all season in the opener, and
Micah Pries and
Tyler Flores powered PLNU to a win in the finale as Point Loma swept the doubleheader and took the series from Concordia. Point Loma won the opener 4-2 and the nightcap 14-5.
Â
Game 1:
Stephen Young went the distance giving up seven hits and two runs, while walking one and striking out seven to help lead PLNU to the 4-2 victory.
Â
Young and the Sea Lions did not have a lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when
Tyler Flores launched a two-run homer over the right-center field wall to put PLNU up 3-2. Point Loma tacked on another run in the eighth on a
Darian Sylvester sacrifice fly and Young finished it out. Young ended the game by retiring the final 13 hitters he faced in order.
Â
However, the out that started Young's streak was part of a double play that occurred when Flores made a great sliding catch with one out and doubled the runner off second to complete the twin killing.
Â
Flores went 2-for-4 in the game with a double, a home run, two RBI and a run scored.
Micah Pries added a home run and two runs scored as part of a two-hit game.
Â
Game 2:
Micah Pries and
Tyler Flores each had five RBI as the Sea Lions put up a home season-high 14 runs to take the nightcap 14-5. Point Loma scored in each of the first three innings, and all but one inning in the game.
Â
Pries was 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run, five RBI and three runs scored.
Tyler Flores blasted his 12th home run of the season in the game and finished with three hits, three runs scored and those five RBIs.
John Balliet also collected three hits and three runs scored out of his leadoff position.
Â
Wyatt Shackleford (4-1) earned his fourth straight win. He went five innings allowing seven hits and four earned runs. He walked one and struck out four.
Ernesto Romero came out of the bullpen after the Eagles put a few runners on base and quickly diffused the rally to preserve the win.

Schaefer speaks
On Young's start: "That was about the first time this year he was really in the form he showed last year. He was dialed today and it was really encouraging. He scattered some hits but he made some pitches to get some big outs."
Â
On comeback in the first game: "We finally started slowing things down offensively. Yesterday we let things get sped up on us and we didn't stay within our approach. Today we started off the same way again but we made the adjustment and it allowed some guys to get some big hits, including Flores who came through with the big swing for us."
Â
On the strong days from Pries and Flores: "In most games when they do well we do well as a team. When they are hot we tend to score a lot of runs. They are both tough to pitch to and they were really, really good in the finale today."
Â
On upcoming series: "Offensively we are going to have to stay within our approach, trust it and have competitive at-bat. Â From a pitching standpoint, if we locate and force them to earn everything I think we will have a really good shot."
