SAN DIEGO–Point Loma hosted the Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo on Saturday night in the last match of a three-game home stand. Both the Vulcans and the Sea Lions were coming off of huge five-set victories in their matches on Thursday, and each was looking to get another big win on Saturday evening.
The teams played a tight first set with the biggest point differential being a five-point UHH lead early in the set. The Sea Lions were able to even it up late, but the Vulcans found a way to squeeze out the 25-23 victory. The second set was where Hawaii Hilo was able to make their move and gain control of the match. Despite the Vulcans hitting only .027 in the second set, they put up eight total blocks contributing to a negative hitting percentage for the Sea Lions in the set, with UHH taking the set 25-19. The Sea Lions put up their best hitting percentage of the match in the third set, but three of their four receiving errors and two of their five service errors came in the third set, leading to the UHH 25-17 third set win.
Rachael Schlect led the Sea Lions in kills once again, totaling seven kills on a .235 hitting percentage.
Courtney Dyer got her second consecutive start at libero and led the way with 14 digs in the match.
Cara Keturakis put up a solid line with 24 assists, four digs, three kills, and three blocks.
