ON THE ATTACK

Sea Lions hit .320 on the way to a 3-0 sweep of the Argonauts

BELMONT, Calif.– Coming off of a win over Dominican on Friday night, the Sea Lions had just under 24 hours to turnaround and prepare for Notre Dame de Namur. Point Loma came ready to play as they put together one of their most complete offensive performances of the season taking the match in three sets, 25-18, 25-11, 25.22.

Set one was a battle as each team found small runs to keep the set close. With the score tied at 18 a missed serve by the Argonauts allowed Jaime Cymbaluk to come to the service line where she served out the set including three aces on her first three serves. The second set was all Point Loma, they started the game on a 5-1 run and after allowing just two more points to NDNU they went on 7-0 run to give themselves a nine-point advantage and the Argonauts were never able to get back in the match. Set three saw the Sea Lions struggle with hitting errors early that allowed NDNU to stay in the match, but Point Loma would pull out the win 25-22 for the sweep.

Jaime Cymbaluk led PLNU with 10 kills in addition to six digs, six aces, and three blocks. Rachael Schlect tallied nine kills and eight digs for Point Loma. Cara Keturakis ran a solid offense once again as she dished out 37 assists helping her team hit .320 for the match, she also added seven kills, four digs, and three blocks. Madie Fox totaled five blocks to lead the team, who had their third highest block total of the season with nine for the match.

Scott's Thoughts
On getting two big wins on the road: "We were able to figure a few things out and we played some good volleyball most of this weekend. It's something to feel good about."

On their tough serves: "We've been emphasizing the word, and the concept, of pressure. A big part of it is being able to hit your serve and they were putting on the pressure."

On their early offensive efficiency: "Cara was in system most of the time, our serve receive did a nice job. That allowed Cara to make good decisions, which she did most of the time, and our hitters made good decisions and put some power into it. We seemed to click tonight."

On preparing for next weekend: "We need to keep moving in the same direction, make sure we do not allow complacency to set in at all. By no means have we arrived and we need to keep going forward."
