HONOLULU –
Cara Liggins recorded her sixth double-double of the season to lead the Sea Lions in a win over the Chaminade Silverswords, 81-67. Liggins was just one of several Sea Lions who made major contributions as Point Loma put together one of their most complete performances of the season.
Point Loma held an eight-point edge at the half, but a huge defensive effort in the third quarter held the Silverswords to only 10 points, allowing PLNU to extend their lead to 19 points headed to the fourth quarter. Chaminade would not lay down though as they cut the Sea Lion lead to as few as seven points in the final frame. Destiny Castro, the second-leading scorer in the PacWest, put in 20 points but it wasn't enough to earn her team the win.
Rebounding was the biggest difference for the Sea Lions as they held a plus-20 rebounding advantage over Chaminade, including a 17-7 advantage on the offensive boards. Point Loma earned 15 second-chance points compared to only seven for the Silverswords. The Sea Lions also dominated the paint outscoring Chaminade 30-21 inside.
Sydney Peterson and Liggins led PLNU with 17 points each, Liggins added 14 boards, four assists, and three steals as well.
Grace Brady had another great outing for the Sea Lions with 12 points, five rebounds, and five blocks. Four other players contributed five or more points giving Point Loma 23 points off of the bench.

Turning Point
The Sea Lions went on a 14-3 run in the third quarter to turn a six-point lead into a 17-point lead. The team got three huge three-pointers from
Isabel Turk,
Cara Liggins, and
Melanie Quijano to help push the game out of reach for the Silverswords.
Thoughts from Coach Faulkner
On her team's rebounding: "We put a big emphasis on that before this game. We had a good film session a couple of days ago talking about our effort on the offensive glass and doing a good job on the defensive glass. So to have those numbers was awesome. I gave them props post-game on really crushing this game with the rebounding margin, it was huge for us."
On the third quarter: "At halftime we talked about getting stops which would allow us to get into transition and get us some opportunities for easy baskets. During that stretch in the third I thought we played great team basketball. We moved the ball really well which created open shots and typically when we run our offense it's beautiful. They play really well together, they get really good scoring opportunities. When we stray from that we struggle, so it was nice to see a good portion of that third quarter where we did a good job."
On Brady's defensive efforts over the last few games: "Grace is huge for us, she is a wonderful safety net for us. Just having someone with that presence is huge and she has been playing really well lately. It seems like she is stepping into her own, figuring it out a little bit and we need that, there is no other layer like her in the conference. When she is playing well we have a really good chance of winning games. It's a huge advantage, and for her to already be third all-time in the PacWest for blocked shots, she is going to crush that record by the time she's done."
On finishing the Hawaii trip strong: "I think every game, whatever we have emphasized in previous practices our girls have done. You can see that we are getting better throughout the course of the year and getting more familiar with each other. They are more familiar with different rotations, they are working better together offensively and defensively, and I hope we continue to do that in Hilo. Hopefully we can get another win here in Hawaii and then head back and get ready to face one of the top teams in the conference on our home court."
