LA MIRADA, Calif. – Just two days after a win over Notre Dame de Namur on Monday afternoon, Point Loma was back in action at Biola looking to complete the season sweep. The teams played a tight battle in Golden Gym before the Sea Lions were able to break away in the fourth quarter for the 60-53 win. Defense was the theme when the two teams met on Wednesday night and PLNU was able to earn the season sweep with the 60-42 victory.
The Sea Lions stormed out to a 22-7 lead after one quarter of play, with both
Carol Schroeder and
Sydney Peterson scoring nine points in the quarter. The offense would slow down for Point Loma as they struggled with turnovers, but their defense never waivered. PLNU held the 32-19 advantage at the half and were able to push their lead to 18 points by the end of the third quarter.
Point Loma was able to dominate the boards throughout the game, including a 17-5 advantage on the offensive boards, which allowed them to earn extra possessions, which helped as the team shot only 35 percent from the field. They were able to hold Biola to only 28.6 percent shooting from the field and 26 percent shooting from three-point range.
Schroeder had a monster game for the Sea Lions as she earned her second career double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds (seven offensive).
Cara Liggins also grabbed 12 boards while just missing another double-double with eight points on the night. Peterson was the only other Sea Lion in double figures with 13 points while also grabbing six rebounds.
Yuendie Guridi also had another solid game with eight points and seven rebounds.
