SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma volleyball team opened the night with a 25-21 win over Biola, but the Eagles bounced back to take the next three sets, and spoil the Sea Lions' PacWest home opener. (Oct. 2)
Â
Five Sea Lions had nine or more kills in the match, including
Torina Hommes who led PLNU with 11 kills. Fellow freshman
Alexis Soncrant posted 10 kills of her own, and
Madie Fox,
Jaime Cymbaluk, and
Grace Hicks each added nine.
Claire Smith made her first career start at setter and posted 41 assists.
Courtney Dyer chipped in with 21 digs. Bekah Roth paced Biola with 13 kills.
Â
The matched started very well for the Sea Lions. They came out with great energy on defense and at the net. PLNU put down 14 kills in the first set and limited Biola to just seven. Hommes also had five kills with no errors on eight swings to Point Loma jump out to the early lead. However, that lead would not stand long as the Eagles were able to edge PLNU in each of the next three sets to take the match.
