SEA LIONS DRAW WITH HAWKS

OAKLAND - The Sea Lions were unable to find the back of the net as they tied their opening PacWest game against Holy Names 0-0

In the opening conference game for PLNU, the team was tested early. Holy Names came out with three shots in the first eight minutes of play, none of which would find the back of the net. That is all it took for the Sea Lion offense to create chances for themselves. Over the next 16 minutes PLNU would control the ball and fire four shots, none on goal. Both teams would trade possessions, PLNU had a great scoring chance off a corner kick in the 38th minute but could not cash in.

To open up the second half the Sea Lions carried most of the momentum, taking four shots in the first eight minutes of play. In the 54th minute Corey Lundeen hit the crossbar, nearly making it a 1-0 lead for the Sea Lions. David Acherandio took two shots early in the half that nearly missed putting the Sea Lions on top. As the match neared closer and closer to a close, the games would get more intense and more fouls would be handed out. After 90 minutes of play the teams would head to overtime tied 0-0.

In the first overtime period Point Loma would put two shots on goal, but could not sneak the ball past the Holy Names keeper. In the 100th minute of play Bere Prince was given a red card, and PLNU looked to take advantage of HNU playing a man down in the second overtime period. During the second overtime period PLNU would apply a lot of offensive pressure as they took three shots at the goal but again, could not beat the HNU keeper to take the victory. At the end of 110 minutes of play the Sea Lions and Hawks walked off with a tie, 0-0.
