Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

TEAGLE'S GAME-WINNER SENDS SENIORS AWAY SMILING

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's soccer team made sure the final memory its four seniors would have on the PLNU Soccer Pitch would be a special one as it sent them home with a 2-0 win over Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Sea Lions had a couple of looks in the first five minutes of the match but they did not get on the scoreboard until the 39th minute. Point Loma worked the ball deep into the box and Julia Glaser took the first of three shots that would be blocked. Glaser's shot rebounded to Ashlee Watkins, and her shot was blocked by the goalie before being put back in by Makenna Herrero. Fortunately for the Sea Lions, Abbey Teagle was there to collect the third miss. She slid into the loose ball in from of the goal and knocked it into the net for the score.

Following halftime, Point Loma came out with additional energy. They made a nice run on their first possession, before Lauren O'Malley found Abbey Teagle on the sideline and she laid it across the front of the net to a streaking Glaser for the 2-0 lead.

Emma Hinson and the defense finished out the match by posting the team's fourth consecutive shutout. Hinson had four saves in the win. Gretchen Berkey made eight saves for HPU.

Words from Coach Kiely
On the seniors: "If I could have longer with every single one of them I would. I felt the same way about last year's class. It has been a joy and a pleasure to coach these women, and I wish we had more time. I have appreciated the way they welcomed and embraced something new, and the success we've had because of it. Not only on the field, but in the locker room as well."

On Teagle: "It was fun to get Abbey back out there and get her space in the pockets we can. She is an instrumental player, and I know the injury this year has been disappointing to her, but what a moment for her on senior day. She contributed on both goals and was a threat all match. She was everything today that she was last year."

On the PLNU families: "The culture of PLNU women's soccer is going as a big family, and I appreciate the families that have embraced it. The O'Malleys hosted us last night and all the senior families that play major roles in their lives were here to support. We appreciate the alum that were here as well. I think our players fell very supported and we appreciate the efforts everyone made."

On PLNU's stretch of four games in nine days: "The one game at a time thing helps. We were able to go 4-0 in this mini-series and we appreciate all the focus the women have shown in this stretch. It was good to finish out here, but I am thankful for the break we have as we head into a really tough game next week."
