SAN DIEGO –
Jordan May scored a career-high 25 points to lead four Sea Lions in double-figures as the Point Loma men's basketball team defeated Hawaii Hilo, 82-68, to begin PacWest play at 3-0. (Dec. 12)
May went 10-of-16 from the field, including knocking down all seven of his shots from inside the arc to finish with a PLNU career-high for points scored. He is now averaging 22.7 points per game since moving into the starting lineup three games ago. The junior shooting guard added six rebounds and three steals to his stat line.
Sterling Somers racked up his second straight double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He went 7-of-9 from the field, and also posted four assists.
Darnell Robateau just missed a double-double of his own as the point guard scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Noah Stapes came off the bench to score 10 points and grab seven rebounds.
The Sea Lions shot .508 percent from the field and outrebounded UHH 45-29, but struggled to put away a scrappy Hawaii Hilo team until late. At the half, PLNU was up just 38-33 after the Vulcans knocked down a pair of 3-pointers late in the half. The Sea Lions built the lead back to double-digits and held a 10-point lead much of the second half. However, they did not put the game away until the final six minutes when they made a 14-5 run to go up 80-63 with 1:31 remaining.
Jordan Graves scored 17 points to lead four Vulcans in double-figures.
