SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma women's basketball team had a rocky start to the season but have come to life since the calendar flipped to 2019. They have put together a 10-game win streak and positioned themselves to make a solid postseason run. The Sea Lions were able to avenge their overtime loss in Honolulu and get the 64-56 win over the regionally ranked Sharks.
Sydney Peterson scored all 17 of her points in the second half and helped to orchestrate one of Point Loma's most complete performances of the season.

The Sea Lions scored the first four points of the game but only managed to score five more before the end of the quarter, trailing 15-9 through the first 10 minutes. Despite the deficit, PLNU stayed focused and slowly chipped away at the Sharks lead outscoring HPU in each quarter after that. Point Loma trailed by just two points at the half with
Carol Schroeder (seven points, eight rebounds) and
Cara Liggins (nine points, six rebounds) pacing the team.

PLNU earned their first lead since the early minutes of the game on a third quarter jumper from Schroeder and never allowed the Sharks to gain more than a two-point lead for the rest of the game. The team made a late 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to give themselves a nine-point advantage and were able to seal the game with free throws down the stretch.

Peterson, Schroeder, and Liggins all scored in double figures for the Sea Lions while Schroeder and Liggins each secured a double-double with 10 boards each.
Yuendie Guridi put up seven points and six boards including two huge layups down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
Grace Brady grabbed seven boards and had three blocks giving the Sea Lions a solid defensive presence in the middle.

PacWest Implications
With the win, the Sea Lions are just a game behind the Sharks for third place in the conference. Should the Sharks drop one of their last two games, the teams could end up tied for third place.
Turning Point

Sydney Peterson and gave the Sea Lions the momentum needed to close out the game and earn the win.
