SAN DIEGO – After two different scheduled meetings were rained out, the Sea Lions were finally able to match up with cross-town rival UC San Diego. It was a top-25 matchup, but it was all Tritons on their home court as they came away with the 7-0 sweep.
The Tritons earned the first doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Sea Lions would quickly even the score at 1-1.
Nicole Camaratta and
Taylor McGowan earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles leaving the deciding point at No. 2 doubles.
Michelle Torres and
Shelby Groeneveld held the 4-3 advantage but were unable to hold on as UCSD came back for the win to earn the doubles point.
Heading into singles play, once again the Tritons would take control early. UCSD earned quick wins at Nos. 6, 1, and 3 to clinch the match with four points. Camaratta, playing up one spot higher than usual at No. 5, pushed her match to three sets but fell 7-10 in set three which secured the sweep for the Tritons.

Wheeler's Words
On his message to the team after doubles play: "It was a tough start losing the doubles point today. #3 doubles played great and secured a quick win and then we had opportunities at #1 and #2 doubles but couldn't finish either of those off. The message going into singles was that we had lost the doubles point a few times this season already and had come back in singles to secure the team win so we know that we can easily come back in singles."
On what the team can learn from today's loss: "A tough loss like today will give us specific things that we can focus on and improve on in practice leading up to our match this weekend."
