POINT LOMA EARNS FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

SAN DIEGO – After starting the season 1-4, Point Loma has put together five straight wins to put their record above .500 for the first time this season. The team hosted the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa Tuesday afternoon, the teams played to clinch and the Sea Lions came away with the 4-0 victory.
 
The team started off strong with doubles play earning wins on all three courts. Thomas Dafcik and Yuki Okamoto earned the first win for Point Loma, 6-4 on court one. Both Nos. 2 and 3 doubles went to tiebreaks but the Sea Lions found a way to win to complete the doubles sweep. Mark Vasat and Mark Penner earned their win 7-6 (7-5) on court three before Scott Wheeler and Tim Soderman secured the doubles sweep 7-6 (7-4).
 
Dafcik continued his solid singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles and stil has yet to drop a singles match this season. Wheeler earned the next point for the Sea Lions taking his match on court four 6-2, 6-1. Vasat earned the clinching point as he won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.

Wheeler's Words
On doubles play: "The guys did a great job today of playing confident and aggressive tennis in all three close doubles matches today."

On singles play of Dafcik, Wheeler, and Vasat: "Thomas, Scott, and Vasat have all been consistent contributors in singles over the past three weeks. All three have been key during our winning streak."

On the tough schedule the team has played over the past two weeks: "The guys have had an extremely busy match schedule recently which has been tough but it also has given them a chance to find their rhythm and play their best tennis of the season."

> Dafcik has won his last ten finished singles matches dating back to last season.
> During the four game win streak Dafcik, Wheeler, and Vasat are a combined 10-1 in singles play. 
> This is the team's second doubles sweep of the season, they also swept Saint Katherine. 
> The team's longest win streak since joining DII is five matches, which they could tie against Williams on Wednesday.

Point Loma will be back in action on Wednesday when they host DIII opponent Williams College at 3 p.m.
