POINT LOMA SECURES WIN OVER HNU

SURPRISE, Ariz. – After their original match was canceled due to weather earlier in the season, Point Loma and Holy Names faced off prior to the start of the PacWest tournament in Arizona. The teams began the match on Tuesday afternoon, but a rain delay forced the teams to put off their match until Wednesday afternoon after the completion of the first round of the women's tournament. With a 2-0 lead before the rain delay, the Sea Lions came back on Wednesday and close out the match, winning 4-1.

Point Loma began the match Tuesday with a sweep in doubles play. Each pair was able to earn a win with matching 6-4 scores across the board. Going into singles play, only Thomas Dafcik was able to complete his match to give the Sea Lions their 2-0 lead before the match was called.

Coming back this afternoon, Point Loma was able to earn the first point of the day with Jasdeep Paintal earning a win on court six, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. The Sea Lions were just one point from clinching the match but a win from Holy Names on court three, bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of the Sea Lions. Wheeler's Words
On finishing strong despite the rain delay: "The men did a great job of starting out strongly today after the rain delay yesterday. Jasdeep and Vasat were able to close out their singles matches efficiently which will help keep the guys fresh and rested for tomorrow's match against APU."

On being able to get in an early match before the start of the tournament: "Being able to play two days in a row out in Surprise has given the guys a great chance to adjust to the tough conditions. Which teams can adjust better is a huge factor in who will be successful."

On what the team needs to do to find success tomorrow: "The guys will need to come out strong in doubles and grab that point. Then follow that up with some early leads in singles to put pressure on a tough APU team."

> Paintal earned his second win of the season in today's match.
