TRITONS TOO MUCH FOR SEA LIONS ON SENIOR DAY

SAN DIEGO – The Sea Lions hosted cross town rival, UC San Diego, in their last home match of the season. After losing at UCSD the Sea Lions looked to even the season series with a win at home for Senior Day. Despite some tough battles, the No. 37 Tritons proved to be too much for Point Loma as they fell 4-0.

The Tritons dealt Point Loma the early blow in doubles play with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. While the doubles point was wrapped up for the Tritons it looked like Taylor McGowan and Nicole Camaratta could close doubles with a win for the Sea Lions. They led 5-3 with an opportunity to gain momentum heading to singles play, but UCSD fought back and took the match in a tiebreak 7-6(7-2).

The doubles sweep gave the Tritons momentum in singles play, but it was not an easy ride for UCSD to earn singles wins. UC San Diego took the first singles match on court five where Michelle Torres battled to a 5-7, 0-6 loss. Gabi Armas put up a tough fight at No. 2 singles falling 3-6, 5-7 to put the Tritons just one win from securing the match. UCSD found the point they needed at court four where McGowan fell 2-6, 1-6.
