LOS ANGELES - Cal State LA scored three goals in its match on Saturday evening with the Sea Lions, unfortunately two of them were into their own net as the Point Loma women's soccer team went on the road to earn the 2-1 victory over a regional opponent.
Â
While no Sea Lions was credited with the goals, it was the constant offensive pressure that led to both scores. The first came off a run from
Abbey Teagle in which she was able to get behind the defense and send a cross into the box intended for
Julia Glaser. The defender stepped in front and knocked it in for the net for first goal of the match in the 25th minute.
Â
The score would stay 1-0 in the Sea Lions' favor through halftime until Adyson Willett tied the match on a header off a free kick from Nicolette Elliott in the 60th minute.
Â
The game-winner would come on a corner kick from
Abbi Swanson. She put a beautiful ball into the goalie box, and a jumble occurred. The goalie was unable to get a hand on it and knock it away. Instead the ball found the head of a Golden Eagle, and it deflected into the goal for the 2-1 lead.
Â
Emma Hinson would face two shots in the final 15 minutes, including one on goal, but she saved it to maintain the Sea Lions' lead. She finished the game with three saves.

Words from Coach Kiely
On the own goals: "We were all over them and those opportunities. They were not errors on Cal State LA, it was our pressure that led to both. We created a lot of opportunities."
Â
On the turning point of the match: "Cal State LA was better the first 10 minutes, but then
Raynee Odell had shift in physicality for us that helped us win that part of the game."
Â
On the defense: "I thought
Courtney Seman and McKenna Herrero were fantastic tonight. I know I identified a few players but the entire team deserves credit.
Â
On the road win: "This is a tough place to come play. It is hot, it is on the road, and we just played on Thursday. Everything about this was hard, but our women came to battle, showed character and handled the moment very well."
Â
On the PLNU coaching staff preparing the team: "I want to give a lot of credit to our staff. Staff is not usually recognized for what they do, and this last week we have had to make some adjustments in a variety of ways. I feel like the contributions from the players the staff, and the athletic trainers has been tremendous. I appreciate everyone's desire to make this program great and continue the role we are on."
Â
On preparing to play four matches in 10 days: "That is going to be difficult especially because we weren't able to get as many players in as we did on Thursday. We are going to need some folks to get some rest and take care of themselves. I want to go into conference facing all that we can. I want to figure out what we might face and take on those challenges."
