SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma women's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back en route to a 94-83 win over Dominican on Thursday, Jan. 23.
Kennedi Byram came off the bench to match her career-high with 16 points to lead six Sea Lions in double-figures.
Alix Henderson also recorded her career-high with 14 points. The sophomore forward went 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. She also had six rebounds and a season-best five assists.
Cara Liggins paced the team with seven rebounds while posting 13 points.
Carol Schroeder also scored 13 points, to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Onjalise Carley-Hilliard added 13 points of her own, for her third straight game in double-figures.
PLNU led throughout the game, but Dominican battled hard and made it a game at the end. Point Loma led 45-30 at the half and 73-51 at the end of the third quarter. However, the Penguins would not go away. They cut the Sea Lions' lead to nine (85-76) with 2:00 left, but PLNU was able to knock down 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

PacWest Implications
The win allows PLNU to move into a tie with Azusa Pacific for third place in the PacWest standings at 8-3. The loss drops Dominican to 4-8 and into eighth place in the PacWest standings.
The Turning Point
The early run gave Point Loma a cushion it would never surrender, and even with the Penguins cutting it to single-digits late the game never felt in double. Schroeder and Carley-Hilliard each scored four points during the opening 10-0 run.
