DOUBLE-DOUBLES BY LIGGINS, SAURETTE POWER POINT LOMA

HONOLULUHaylee Saurette and Cara Liggins each recorded double-doubles to lift the Point Loma women's basketball team to an 87-65 win over Chaminade, to close out their three-game road trip to Hawaii. (Jan. 8)

Saurette scored 24 points en route to post first career double-double. The sophomore forward hit four 3-pointers and went 10-of-11 from the free throw line to record her career-high in points. She also pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out two assists.

Cara Liggins registered all 10 of her rebounds on the defensive glass to go along with her 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting. Carol Schroeder just missed a double-double of her own as she scored 13 points (6-of-9) and grabbed nine rebounds. Kennedi Byram came off the bench and hit four 3-pointers to post a career-high of her own with 13 points. Destiny Castro led Chaminade with 22 points.

Words from coach Lisa Faulkner
On tonight's team effort: "It was a collective effort both offensively and defensively. Everyone has gotten minutes this season, and it helps in games like this. Haylee Saurette and Isabel Turk were both in the starting lineup, and we were able to stick with the things that we do well in practice. Those things translated to a really good all-around performance."

On the Sea Lions' rebounding: "Rebounding is huge for us. We make it a point of emphasis offensively and defensively. It is really a toughness stat, and Carol (Schroeder) sets the tone for us there. Chaminade is a good rebounding team, so it was very impressive that we dominated them on the glass."

On returning to Golden Gym for a three-game homestand: "To be back at home, practicing on our own court and getting back in a routine will be good for us. Hopefully, we can get healthy too."
