IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 21 Point Loma men's basketball team extended its season-best winning streak to nine games, and defeated Concordia for the fourth straight time, with a 73-69 road win on Saturday night. (Feb. 1)
Â
Jordan May had a game-high 18 points to lead four Sea Lions in double-figures. He also paced the team with six rebounds.
Darnell Robateau added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go along with five rebounds and six assists.
Ben Okhotin had 12 points and
Kaden Anderson chipped in with 10. Jalen Sanders paced Concordia with 17 points.
Â
Point Loma trailed 34-32 at halftime but scored the first seven points of the second half to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Sea Lions would go up by as many as nine (52-43) but the Eagles continued to fight and had it down to a one-possession game (67-65) in the final minutes. PLNU would get a 3-pointer from the corner by
Jordan May and clutch free throws from both
Ben Okhotin and
Kaden Anderson to hold on for the victory. Â

PacWest Implications
With PLNU and Azusa Pacific both winning on Saturday, it means the top 2 teams in the PacWest will face off on Wednesday, Feb. 5 in Golden Gym. Point Loma currently holds a 1.5 game lead on APU for first place, but the Cougars won the head-to-head meeting earlier in the season. The loss drops Concordia behind Chaminade and into fourth place in the standings.
Â
Turning Point
Nothing in this game was decided until the final minutes, but the way the Sea Lions opened the second half on the 7-0 run gave them the momentum to help lift them to the win. Â
Words from coach Matt Logie
On playing on the road in a tough environment: "Playing on the road exposes a team's character and togetherness. Our guys have continued to step up to the challenge, especially on the defensive end."
Â
On PLNU's defense: "I thought our defense in the second half was really locked in. We were very active and did a better job of cleaning up the glass."
Â
On the upcoming homestand: "It's always great to play at home, but we are just focused on Wednesday's game. It is a great opportunity for our students to come out and support these guys who have worked really hard to create an opportunity like this."
