SAN DIEGO - Chaminade closed out the game on a 24-8 run to stun No. 16 Point Loma and come out of Golden Gym with an 80-70 victory on Monday, Feb. 10.
Â
After a back-and-forth first half, which saw the lead change hands multiple times and the Sea Lions make up a 10-point deficit, PLNU went in front 62-56 with 11:10 remaining. Over the next six minutes, Point Loma would miss seven straight shots and turn the ball over five times to fuel a 15-1 run by the Silverswords. A 3-pointer by
Sterling Somers would break the run with 5:13 remaining and bring Point Loma back within five (71-66).
Â
However, Point Loma was not able to get the momentum or find its shooting touch down the stretch to close the five-point gap. They would make just one of their final nine shots, while Chaminade was able to get a couple of key baskets to earn its first win in Golden Gym since 2017.
Â
Kaden Anderson went 9-of-12 from the field to lead PLNU with 21 points.
Darnell Robateau recorded his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He added five assists and two steals.
Sterling Somers (13) and
Brock Mackenzie (10) joined them in double-figures. Andre Arissol paced Chaminade with 21 points and five 3-pointers.
