SAN DIEGO -
Sterling Somers scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Point Loma men's basketball team to a 90-59 win over Notre Dame de Namur on his Senior Night. (Feb. 22)
Â
Somers went 7-of-11 from the field, including hitting two 3-pointers early in the game, as PLNU opened up a 16-6 lead. He added six rebounds and three assists in his final game in Golden Gym. The Lynden, Wash., native was not the only Sea Lion in double-figures as all five starters scored at least 12 points and had three assists.
Â
Kaden Anderson registered 10 rebounds to go along with his 16 points. It was the sophomore's fifth double-double of the season.
Jordan May knocked down four 3-pointers en route to scoring his 15 points.
Darnell Robateau and
Brock Mackenzie chipped in with 12 and 13 points, respectively.
Â
Point Loma never trailed in the game. After Somers hit his second 3-pointer to put PLNU up 16-6 just six minutes in, the Argonauts battled back to cut it to one point (29-28). The Sea Lions answered by holding NDNU scoreless the final five minutes of the half while posting 15 straight points to lead 44-28 at halftime. Point Loma would extend their run to 26-0 as they scored the first 11 points of the second half to go on top 55-28. Notre Dame de Namur never got within 24 points the rest of the way.
Â
Ajay Singh paced NDNU with 17 points and Trevor Thompson chipped in with 16.

PacWest Implications
The win tonight, and Concordia's loss at Academy of Art, secured the No. 2 seed for Point Loma in the upcoming PacWest Tournament. NDNU remains at the bottom of the standings with the loss. Â
Â
Turning Point
The 26-0 run between the end of the first half and the opening of the second half not only put all the momentum on the Sea Lions' side, but it also showed they were not going to let NDNU hang around. When the opportunity presented itself PLNU distanced itself from the Argonauts through efficient execution on offense and tenacious, team-oriented defensive effort.
