LATE VICTORY SENDS SENIORS AWAY SMILING

SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma women's basketball team sent their three seniors away happy as the Sea Lions earned a 56-51 victory over Notre Dame de Namur in its final game of the 2019-20 season in Golden Gym. (Feb. 22)

The win did not come easy as the Argonauts fought the Sea Lions throughout the entire 40 minutes. The game was tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. NDNU then scored the first seven points of the second quarter to go up 23-17. The Sea Lions responded by outscoring the Argonauts 11-1 the rest of the quarter to take a 27-23 lead into the locker room.

PLNU went up by as many as eight (34-26) in the third quarter but led by just two (38-36) heading into the fourth quarter. NDNU would tie the game at 51-51. The senior Carol Schroeder then hit a jumper and made a steal to help put the Sea Lions in front by three (54-51), and they would hold on for the 56-51 win.

Six Sea Lions scored at least eight points in the contest. Alix Henderson led the way with 12 points. Kennedi Byram scored all 10 of her points in the first half. Isabel Turk added nine points, and Onjalise Carley-Hilliard, Carol Schroeder and Cara Liggins all chipped with eight points apiece. Sharon Roldan paced NDNU with 10 points.

PacWest Implications
The win secures a spot in the PacWest Conference Tournament for the Sea Lions. They are currently in possession of the sixth and final seed but are just a half-game behind Fresno Pacific for the No. 5 spot and 1.5 back of Biola for the No. 4 seed. NDNU is in 10th place in the conference and has been eliminated from postseason play.

Turning Point
Carol Schroeder's jumper and steal on the subsequent possession with less than two minutes turned a tied game into a three-point lead for the Sea Lions, and the Argonauts would not score again.
