LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Point Loma men's tennis team traveled to crosstown rival UC San Diego seeking their first win of the season, but came up just short losing by a score of 5-2.
After dropping the first of three doubles matches,
Yuki Okamoto and
Tyler Davis got a huge victory over their opponents. The Sea Lions were looking for one more victory to capture the point in doubles play.
Jan Plueer and Alejandro Casteneda secured the point in for the Sea Lions after defeating their opponents 7-5. PLNU would take a 1-0 when the teams headed to singles play.
PLNU would fight hard but drop their first four singles matches. Going into the fifth match the Sea Lions looked to keep it close. Tyler Dais would be the one to step up and gather the point for Point Loma. He would drop the first set 6-1 but then redeemed himself winning the next sets by a score of 7-5, twice.
Yuki Okamoto would be the lone Sea Lion yet to finish. Yuki and Sahm Irvine of UCSD would battle back and forth trying to capture the last point for their respective teams. Irvine would win the first set 7-5 before Yuki responded with winning the second set 6-4. They would go into a tiebreaker that ultimately went to Irvine.
Point Loma would drop the match by a score of 5-2 to UCSD.
